In a little while, I'm thrilled to say, the very talented Jennifer Ashley will be joining us with her unique brand of shifter.
On Tuesday, we welcome Ashlyn Chase to the party; and on Wednesday Nancy Gideon. On Thursday we get two authors for the price of one - Summer Devon and Linda Gayle. And on Friday, we welcome Selena Illyria.
So let's start things off with the question of why werewolves and other animal shifters are so popular in the romance genre. What's so sexy about furry? Real animals just aren't sexually attractive (to the vast majority of humans!) so why should we enjoy so much reading about men (or women) who can turn into them?
What draws you to shifter romance? For me, I think it's the tragedy that surrounds such creatures, the loneliness and the pain they suffer every full moon and the difficulty of living with their condition in "normal" society. Take that along with the ferocity and power of the shifted creature, and his "cuddly" aspect, and it's clearly an irresistible combination :). What do you think?

I can't speak for everyone but for me werewolves and shifters have always been my favorite paranormal creatures, in fact I use to debate with my best girl friend about which was better vamps or werewolves.
ReplyDeleteNowadays vamps are a close second on my list of faves, but I still really enjoy stories about werewolves and shifters. I'll be honest though when I say that I'm a little more into shifters now that they've gone from being wolf shifters to any kind of shifter you can imagine!
I agree with you Ms. Treanor when you say that it might be the tragedy of the werewolf that attracts us to them, that's one of the reasons that I'm so into them!
I also think that I'm so intrigued by shifter and werewolf romances is because most of the stories have some awesome characters and story lines, a lot of them contain some great conflicts and twists that really have you rooting for the main characters to end up with each other in the end!
I can't wait until the party officially gets underway, I love these parties that you throw!
They're always so intriguing with great guests and so many different opinions!

I like shifter stories because, in many cases, an alpha male is featured who is devoted to his pack or clan. He'll risk his life to save and protect his loved ones.

I like the urban fantasy world within the world. Sometimes the shifter is a little like a superhero with some extra ability, othertimes a persecuted minority.

For me it's the whole protective/loyalty aspect of the shifter personality. Who wouldn't love a man who would do anything to protect them & be unfailingly loyal to those he loves?
