Welcome Dakota Cassidy!

As our first guest of honour, I'm thrilled to welcome the one and only Dakota Cassidy! However, beating Dakota to the party, we appear to have one Nina Blackman Statleon who's dropped in to give us the true low-down on Dakota...

Ha-ha—Very Funny

Nina Blackman Statleon here, vampire, and the second heroine in a series titled the Accidentals. The series is about women who’ve been accidentally bitten by a paranormal being, and then fall in love with said being. You know, vampires, werewolves—what-ever. There’s even a first ever male accidental biting coming up. Anyway, I’m hijacking her highnesses blogging duties because it’s about time somebody paid attention to me. It’s well past time for the truth to come out!

Oh, and her highness=Dakota Cassidy. The author of the dumbest books evah, FYI.

And yeah, my fingers were sneering when I typed her name. Know why? Let me count the effin’ ways.

Poise yourself, people—incoming rant.

First, some background on Dakota. She’s quote-unquote labeled funny by some (not everyone. Some say she’s a total hack. “Some,” okay, most, are right). Sometimes people even say she’s the R-O-F-L-M-A-O kind of funny. You know, the kind where you spew milk from your nose? According to her, if she let herself think about trying to be funny, she’d never write another word. I’d just call that a blessing in disguise. But hey, that’s just me.

She’s also a sissy-whiner. Trust me, I know because I spend every frickin’ night with her. Anyway, the point. According to Senior Barbie, she doesn’t set out to be funny when she plunks her ten-by-ten wide down in her office chair every night. In fact, her beta readers have informed me that she has to ask them if they laughed during a read through. Which is pathetic, if you ask me. She’s paid to bring the giggle.

She calls this gig of hers pressure. You know, because she doesn’t know if she’s keeping book after endless stupid book fresh with new smart-ass lines and better plots. She’s forever stressing over whether she upped the ante enough, gave the story enough twists and turns, blah, blah, blah. But excuse the eff outta me, who’s really under pressure here, people?

Me.

That’s right. I said it. Me. I don’t care what any of the other heroine’s in the series say, and I don’t care if they are my BFF’s, I’m the snarkiest broad in all the books she’s written. I’m way funnier than Marty, Wanda, and Casey combined, and that’s on a slow day.

Isn’t it me who swears creatively book after book? Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep coming up with a new catch phrase her fans will use, but she’ll pretend is hers? Isn’t it my butt that’s always threatening bodily harm with wisecracks and fists?

Was it me who started the “What’s In Your Color Wheel?” slogan? You know, the most popular question fans ask her? Yes. You bet your flamin’ bippy, it was.  Last I checked, it was me who was responsible for all of her fans harshin’ the color yellow’s vibe, too.

Yet, she gets all the credit. Oh, Dakota’s so funny. Oh, Dakota’s a riot. Dakota, Dakota, Dakota. I can’t tell you how sick to death I am of hearing her name. I’m also sick to death of taking the fall. I lost count of all the dangerous situations she puts me in where I not only have to save myself, but whatever loser heroine Dakota’s thunk up in the latest Accidental adventure. Why is it always me that has to save the day?

Not only do I have to be funny, but I have to be some sort of ninja vampire, too? Who dubbed Dakota Cassidy the “word” on whether I should have the burden of saving the world on my shoulders?

So the next time you’re brave enough to pick up a Dakota Cassidy book, do yourself a favor—first, be strong fine warriors. You’ll need some strength going into one of her rambling, woeful tales. Second, remember WHO does all the work here.

That’s right. Me. Nina Blackman-Statleon aka Dakota Cassidy’s fall guy.

End rant :)

Excerpt from Accidentally Catty

In this scene, my heroine Katie Woods DVM, forty-two is struggling with her attraction to a man she believes is much younger than she is. He’s also the man who showed up on her clinic doorstep in cougar form, accidentally scratched her while he was unconscious and can’t remember a single thing about being a cougar…

Somehow, the vision of Shaw wringing George’s neck brought with it a deep feeling of being sheltered—protected, and it made her blush. “I say okay.”

His lips grazed her hair. “Do you want to know what I think we should do instead?”

“Play World of Warcraft?”

The rumble of his laughter against her cheek made her body tingle. “Lay off the teen jokes. What I have in mind has nothing to do with video games. It’s all adult-like, in fact.”

“You wanna balance my checkbook, don’t you?” She clamped her mouth shut, mortified she’d been so forward and flirtatious.

“Metaphorically speaking, I’d really just like to see your check- book again.” The smile that followed was lascivious.

Instantly, Katie was nervous. She’d had a semi-active sex life in college and before marrying George, but it’d been a long time since she’d engaged in something this spontaneous, and she’d never engaged in anything so forbidden. No matter how long his mother’d been around, Katie couldn’t get past the part that quite possibly, when she’d been graduating college and drinking beer from a bong, he’d been riding BigWheels and snarfing a Capri Sun.

She began to push Shaw away, even if doing so left her still wanting him. “We shouldn’t do this.”
He hauled her over his length, leaving them pressed together, their noses touching. “I can’t think of one good reason not to. I like you, you like me. It’s like that show Barney, but with some hanky-panky.”

“Because we hardly know each other.”

His mouth whispered over hers, making her nipples bead to tight knots. “In all fairness, you can’t really know me because I don’t know me. Therefore, the getting to know one another point is moot, which means we can skip right to the dirty without any residual guilt.”

Sounds good to me!  And thank you to Nina for the clarification - I'm sure Dakota will be along later to defend herself. In the mean time, Dakota is giving away a $15 Amazon gift certificate to one lucky winner who has anything to say about Nina's rant! The contest will end at midnight tonight and the winner will be announced tomorrow on this thread.

  2. Hi Dakota -
Nina needs to take the cigarette out of her mouth she looks stupid! Every picture I see of her she has one dangling from her lips. I don't put too much cred in what someone has to say that is still smoking after all of these years and the information that has been put out about it and the people that have been killed by it which only goes to prove the information was correct. The princess tiara - what is she five? I know they have princess parties, but I also know that those are popular for the pre 2nd grade set.

I wouldn't take too much to heart on anything she has to rant about. I guess I have gotten on my own soap box, lets just say I don't know you well enough to comment, so I thought I would respond to the women who opened up here with the rant.

So Nina, I guess this is end rant from Brenda in Michigan!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Uh, Brenda-that is actually a picture of Dakota, not Nina. I know I get it on every one of her newsletters. As for Nina-go bite something. I love the series that Dakota writes and you don't ALWAYS have to save the day.

  4. Nina for a fall guy you do pretty well, thank goodness Dakota invented you or we would all have much less laughter in our lives!

Dakota you Rock, if I play my cards right will be able to tell you that at the next Tea in June!

  5. Love Dakota's books so I guess I don't have much sympathy for Nina. The way I figure it she should be happy that she has such a following and is brought back time and again by Dakota.

    I love the accidentally series!

  7. Without Dakota there would be no Nina. So Nina, when you are ranting, remember that The Princess who brought you into the world can also take you out. On the other hand, 'Call me Princess' you must remember what a great find Nina was. Enjoy you both.
ps Did you ever think of running in the Disney Princess Half Marathon?

  8. Nina,
You should absolutely get the attention. No pressure. Thanks for the laugh!

  19. Nina you seem like a very intriguing person or vamp or whatever, just a couple things though. Take a vacation or something I mean jeez all that ranting and stress isn't good for you I know, I know it won't kill you; but take some yoga classes or something.

Besides Ms. Cassidy can't be that bad, she probably only complains about the usual stuff. All in all not a bad rant can't wait to meet ya Nina!

  20. Dakota, Nina needs to tone it down, lol, she's got you completely wrong. I laugh myself silly when I read one of your books, they always give me a lift. I highly enjoy the "Accidentally" series, so please, keep writing them, no matter what Miss Nina says!

  29. Nina -- can you barter for better pay? Maybe top billing in the Accidentals series? A raise? A shopping spree for non-yellow clothing? I'm sure there's got to be *something* DC can do to reward you for all the funny you bring to the books... and, actually, a good share of the marketing. Weren't you a star in a crossover story with Amanda Feral awhile ago? And don't you promote the books on an awful lot of guest blogs?

What you do for that woman, srsly!

    (Love you DC!)

Dakota, thanks so much for your books!!

  37. Nina certainly has no problem vocalizing her opinions! I wouldn't want to end up on her bad side.

  38. Where oh where to begin?

With Nina of course, Nina Darling, you need to understand something as you go through your little rants about Dakota. You lay the blame for all the craziness that happens at Dakota's feet, but really, let's be honest with ourselves, just between us girls, your the one really in control, you tell her exactly how it's going to be.

Dakota, I understand how difficult it can be dealing with someone like Nina. They rant and blame us, but really, they are the one's who don't let us get any rest until their stories are told. That being said, keep it up, because someone has to keep the laughs coming.

  88. Well, Cherry--it you're a hardcore series reader, don't do it. The relationship between the women grows over the course of five books, and lots of stuff happens to them all, as well as the subsequent characters.

I try to keep each story a stand alone, but if you're a stickler for deets, I wouldn't do it :)

You love Dakota and you know it :) Oh and Kota darlin keep up the good work I love the way you make us laugh !!!

  91. Now Nina, I will give in to your point that you are oh so entertaining. I admit that you bring the creative swearing, the funny and the snark. But I must give you a Seriously?!...Come On. You live forever with all your friends(whom might I add put up with you). You've got a hot husband. Oh and you can fly. You ain't doing too bad there!

So while you may call her, I believe you said sissy-whiner. She's the one who's given you all the good crap too.

Thanks Dakota you always bring the funny! No need to worry about that! I will always be a fan.

You are my favorite accidental. You are the one with the best wise cracks and you are the toughest Biotch -totally a compliment- around.

But after watching DC chow down on bull's balls I've seen first hand that she can be pretty effin' funny and smart-arsed all on her own without any help what so ever from you.

I know how daunting it must be to be so important to her, but just think how many of us would like to be around her every day, and be proud that you can be. Nina, you really rock!

  99. LOL. You know, Nina, that without Dakota you would not exist. And she can stop writing you if you get out of hand. So behave. Also, Wanda, could more than likely take you. I still <3 you anyway.

  100. I love how Nina calls Dakota a sissy whiner and talks about her writing not being funny. I love Dakota's books and I've laughed so hard that it hurt.

Sheilag, thank you! That's great to hear, and both my thumbs are well up to Dakota :)

  103. Nina is freaking hilarious and she does provide much humor in the books! I love all the catch phrases she says and I love that she has such a strong back bone! They should call her Backbone-Blackman! Haha! Anyhoo Dakota you are awesome and for the record you do make me double over laughing!

  108. I absolutely love the cigarette and Tiara. Any woman who has the "balls" to do that in public is my kind of person. I love the stories you write. I get each one as they come out and can't wait till the next one.

  109. You both have to remember that in a way you both depend on each other. Without the other you each wouldn't be where you are today.

  110. OMG I love me some Nina!! Although I do admit I kinda liked it when Casey gave her the business in Accidentally Demonic (I wont say what happened cuz I dont want to post spoilers!) 116. Hilarious! I love character interviews(or in this case rants). I'm sure it's really Nina who's the funniest/most creative *cough cough*.

  119. Wow..OK...stop pacing - and throwing your arms around like we can see you...not! Sit down, calm....breath in and out - oh wait - you don't need to. Well, lets see, you can't have one with out the other, you (Nina) cannot be with out thee (Dakota), in fact I would think it pretty ingenuous that she (Dakota) was able to come up with such a lively, charismatic, almost likable character, mostly likable, alright very likable character like yourself. I do think it very curious that the cover of "your" book, you know, with you all cute and all that luxurious, thick hair looks suspiciously like her...you know Dakota...your creator. OOPs, did I spill the beans, that's just craptastic...now I've gone and done it. Sorry Dakota, if Nina needs "help" with this revelation, this cloud of a poop storm, I may be able to get you some numbers for her.

Well I guess if I am going to step in it, I might as well do it big. As Yoda once said... "Do or do not...there is no try."

  120. Since I couldn't rant myself today, it was nice to experience Nina's no holds barred rant. Great party.

  121. LOL@Littlestrongheart--you know, everyone says Nina's cover was modeled after me, but honest, I didn't know my cover artist that well at the time. Now we're pals, and she blesses me with the most FAB covers--she even made a design for my website.

Now the website? That was her cartoon version of me :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. Well I love the covers of your books...and what is in between them as well. And yes, I am the same one from FB. Thanks for all you did. And of course your website is GREAT!! Love it!!

  123. I love Nina's snarkiness. I always suspected she was the one in charge! Love the books, regardless of who's doing the writing!

    ReplyDelete
  124. So glad nina is imaginative . dakotas books are great !!

  125. Nina, I know you feel like you don't get the credit you deserve. But after reading all the comments of the people who posted. It looks like your pretty important to Dakota's books.
You see you pestered her enough to write you into existence. So that says something about you. And from what I see you are a big part of her stories.

You are a pretty snarky person. So lift you head high and stop brooding. Us readers see your importance. You make us laugh. We love you girl.

  126. Nina,
I know where you're coming from. I'm always responsible when things go wrong at work. I know I'm not but do you think others will believe me when I say it's not my fault? NO! Don't you just get tried carrying everyone else? We need a support group for those of us who are not responsible like WAR-N (We Are Responsible--Not). What do you think? How big will our group be? Oh, and it definitely needs to be an invitation only group--very exclusive. Not just anyone can join us. It takes a special woman.
