Welcome to the SciFi Romance Party!

Welcome everyone! Park your space ship outside, and let the robots take your coat and fetch you a drink while you enjoy some of the finest romantic science fiction and fantasy in the book world.

In a little while, we'll be joined by Sara Creasy; on Tuesday Isabella Jordan joins the party; on Wednesday, Elisabeth Naughton; on Thursday Misa Buckley; and on Friday Zoe Archer. Together these writers cover a  broad swathe of speculative and futuristic fiction, and it's fun to see how genres can cross over and include elements of the paranormal and horror as well as fantasy. Our guests of honour will be chatting about science fiction and fantasy romance in general and their own books in particular, and each will be offering a fantastic prize.

Let me start the party by asking you if you're already a fan of sci-fi romance? If you are, what draws you most to the genre? If you're dipping your toe into sci-fi waters for the first time, what springs immediately to mind when you read, or hear, the words "science fiction"?

  1. I am semi new to sci-fi romance and what I love is the new twists and turns these books take me on. I feel like there are so many great possibilities for the story line and I'm always anxious to see where the author will take me. I love using my imagination and I love getting lost in a book that takes me far away from reality :)

  2. I have read sci-fi before and really enjoy it. I like the fact that you can take what you like, within believability, and make it work in terms of another world. You can do so much and be so creative

  4. Hi Jolene and Debby!
I agree with both of you - there are no limits to what can be done here with creativity and imagination - so long as it can be made believable :).

  5. Hi Valerie!
Yes, I started on Asimov too - Foundation, and the Robot books. Great stuff :) Keep meaning to read Angela's books - thanks for the nudge!

  6. I have been reading sci-fi romance for a few years but it is only in the last two years that I have started targeting it more for purchase. There is a lot more choice now with e-books.

  8. Hello, All.

When I was younger, sci-fi meant Ray Bradbury and The Martian Chronicles!

Many years later, I've broadened my reading choices which have included several romantic sci-fi novels. I like the combination of "futuristic elements" and the old fashion romance.

    Thanks,

  9. Hi Tracey! Yes, that's what's always appealed to me :). I used to find it quite hard to get into some science fiction, because I couldn't relate to the characters. As in other genres, I think I prefer the character driven variety.
